I was eleven years old when he died. After I came home from school, mom told me and I just cried in my bed for hours.

I was in college. I bawled. Drew a picture and wrote a long letter and sent both to the family. I was devastated. I originally went to college to become a Bat Biologist, because of him and others like him. But he was consistent in my life. My parents made sure of that. I became an outdoor educator and naturalist, and he influenced that. It was like a friend died that day. I took it for granted that I would meet him someday. 

I can’t believe it’s been six years.
